Donald Glover’s character Lando Calrissian might be getting his own standalone movie following the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story.
In an interview with Premiere France (and translated by IndieWire) at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased that a standalone movie for Lando is currently planned.
Kennedy told Premiere France, “We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next.”
At this time, this is the first mention of a Lando Star Wars spinoff movie, but actor Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo) has signed on for three movies, so there is potential for more Lando and Han on-screen interaction. While Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) is not currently signed on for future Star Wars movies, he recently wrapped season two of the FX shows Atlanta, potentially leaving him available for future projects.
You can see Donald Glover as the smuggler Lando Calrissian on May 25, when Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters.
