“Deadpool 2” Review
If you liked the first Deadpool movie, more than likely you will enjoy the sequel. Deadpool 2 is more of the same, with a bigger budget and a larger cast. This movie works more as a comedy than it does a super hero movie and think that is one of it’s biggest flaws.
Deadpool 2 starts with a very fun James Bond style opening along with a theme song sung by Celine Dion. From there, Wade (Ryan Reynolds) and the love of his life, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), discuss their future together but things do not go as planned. A mysterious figure from the future, Cable (Josh Brolin), comes to wreck havoc which leads to Deadpool getting involved and forming his own team of superheroes called X-Force. But will Deadpool and X-Force be victorious?
The one thing I loved about Deadpool 2 was Ryan Reynolds’ performance. Reynolds, more than any actor portraying a superhero at this this time, really gets and embodies the character. You have to give him credit because without him involved, more than likely, the Deadpool movies would not have been as successful. I’m not a huge fan of Deadpool in the comics but you cant help but smile at how well Reynolds just nail the character in every scene.
Deadpool 2 biggest problem is lackluster villains. Make that very lame villains. Probably some of the worst villains in a movie since Superman 3. And you may also attribute this to casting. For me, the new cast brings nothing good to the table. There are a few minor characters that do their job well but Josh Brolin as Cable is no Thanos. I used to be a fan of Cable in the comics, until they made him appear in everything, and Brolin just does not do a good job. It kills me though because this performance sometimes reminds me that he would have made a great Batman, just not Cable. Also, it is painfully obvious that this movie is just a ripoff of Terminator 2. A little too much. And the boy that is a substitute for John Connor is just horrible. The last thing that has become really overused is Deadpool’s constant references to the MCU and the DCEU. After the fourth time, it just became less funny and overused.
If there is one reason to go and see Deadpool 2 for, do not dare leave your seats until you see the after credit scenes. Those are the best after credit scenes ever and the most memorable part of the movie.
I give Deadpool 2 a 6/10.
Ms. Marvel Coming To The MCU
It looks like a fan favorite Marvel character will be heading to the MCU….eventually. Kevin Feige recently sat down with the BBC and had this to say about the future of Ms. Marvel and Kamala Khan.
“Captain Marvel‘s shooting right now with Brie Larson, “Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works. We have plans for that once we introduce Captain Marvel.”
So it sounds like Ms Marvel is definitely being talked about and might appear in Marvel’s Phase 4 of movies. Right now, we know very little about Phase 4 probably because Avengers 4 will be the end for some and the beginning for others. And Marvel is just not ready to reveal that just yet.
What “Avengers 4” Could Be About
Avengers: Infinity War left us all with one of the biggest cliffhangers in MCU history. Thanos was successful with squiring all of the Infinity Stones, and with a snap of his fingers, more than half of the superheroes, as well as the inhabitants of The Universe, died and turned to dust. But what happens next?
Marvel is definitely doing it’s best to keep the story of Avengers 4 secret. But there have been some photos that appeared online in the last few months that seem to suggest that Tony (Robert Downey Jr.), who was one of the survivors of Infinity War, somehow was able to travel back in time to the moment when the Avengers first appeared together to fight Loki and the Chitauri during the attack of New York. That dreadful suit worn by Captain America (Chris Evans) above is a dead giveaway. You can also see that Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) is there? We did not see Ant-Man in Infinity War, but it’s possible that he also could have been one of the survivors and time traveled with Tony to find the original Avengers.
The above photo shows Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo on set. Ruffalo is in a motion capture suit confirming that he will appear as the Hulk in some form. Is it the Hulk from the future that travels with Tony or the Hulk from the past that fought side by side with The Avengers during the battle of New York?
It seems that Tony, Captain America and Ant-Man all have a wrist watch like device displaying an X on the face. Rumor is that they are time travel devices. Tony can be gathering all of the heroes from different time points in the movies of the MCU to help him defeat Thanos. Or Tony can also be traveling through time recruiting the heroes to obtain the Infinity Stones in the past before Thanos acquires them in the future. As dire as the ending of Infinity War was, one thing is for certain, it will not be permanent, well, maybe for some, and Thanos’s reign will come to an end.
