Square Enix shared a Kingdom Hearts III trailer during their E3 press conference that closely resembled the one shown during Microsoft’s media briefing. However, each trailer is actually subtly different, with the newer one confirming the presence of everyone’s favorite Disney rat (not to be confused with everyone’s favorite Disney mouse).
After a very familiar opening that shows off the world of Arendelle in the Kingdom Hearts universe, the trailer begins to show snippets of new footage, including what appears to be a cooking mini game with Remy from Pixar’s Ratatouille. The footage in the trailer shows Remy standing on Sora’s head, pulling his hair to aid him in cooking, akin to how Remy and Linguini cook in the movie.
Other than slightly different editing cuts, the trailer also shows a bit more of a story focus on Organization 13. If the plot seems to be getting a little messy, it’s because Kingdom Hearts III is relying on the narrative of the spinoff titles to push the story forward. We recommend playing through some of the earlier entries in the franchise, or at least reading up on the story before embarking on the daunting quest that is Kingdom Hearts III.
Kingdom Hearts III will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One January 29, 2019.
