Review of Coastal Eats at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

All three of the dishes at Coastal Eats have been carried over from 2017.

Lump Crab Cake with Napa Cabbage Slaw and Avocado-Lemongrass Cream – $5.25

This is a surprisingly healthy serving for the Food & Wine festival. There’s real crab packed-in to this crab cake and the flavor does NOT disappoint. The avocado cream seems to be overplayed at Epcot events in the past few years, fortunately this pairs well with the crab and makes for a very enjoyable dish. Last year we felt this dish was priced just fine for seafood at the festival and that feeling continues to this year even though the price raised by 25 cents. Recommended.

Baked Shrimp Scampi Dip with Sourdough Baguette – $5.75

This is another surprisingly sizable portion! The sharable dip comes with two pieces of toasted sourdough bread making for easy dipping into the creamy mixture of shrimp and white sauce. We didn’t expect this straightforward dish to be as spectacular as some of the more complex ones, but that’s the beauty of the Food & Wine festival: even the simple dishes are sometimes great. Make no mistake that this is one you’ll want to indulge in.

Seared Scallops with Roasted Corn, Butterbean Succotash, and Chili-Chipotle Butter Sauce – $6.00

Disney does a few things right seemingly all the time. I know, that feels like an oxymoron with The Great Movie Ride closing last year, but hear us out: Scallops. Disney ALWAYS does scallops well, even in the fast-paced Epcot festival world. We don’t know how they’re able to continuously, year after year, provide amazing tasting scallops but they do. 2018 is no exception to this scallop rule. Albeit pricey and a small portion, you should give this dish a second look. The chili-chipotle butter sauce is a tad spicy and only enhances the perfectly seared scallops.
