An exciting announcement we’ve been waiting for regarding the new nighttime shows at Epcot just came out from Destination D! Bob Chapek has shared an update on the new permanent show set to open at Epcot in 2020 as part of the multi-year transformation of Epcot.
The new nighttime spectacular, called “A Celebration of Disney Music,” will show how Disney music inspires people around the globe, and will feature large floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, kites with special effects, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, and lasers.
In another announcement that will please long-time Epcot fans, there will be a limited-time experience, called “Epcot Forever,” which will debut in fall 2019 and will feature classic Epcot tunes. As we reported earlier, this will replace IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth until the new nighttime spectacular debuts.
Disgusting what they have done to E.P.C.O.T. Why don’t they just rename it MK2 and be done with it.
Anyone else feel like they missed the mark? I’m not someone who gets upset about IPcot, but almost every other firework show Disney has ever put on is a collection of Disney music set to fireworks. Its a tried and true method, but I don’t think it will be enough to fill Illuminationss shoes. This feels like a missed opportunity to do something original to me.
I wholeheartedly agree. I don’t really mind if they want to inject IP into the world showcase, as long as it doesn’t take over and become the focus. Frozen basically did this to Norway but coco was a complimentary addition to Mexico. I dislike greatly the new “theme” of the new show. Illuminations is uplifting with lofty aspirations of world peace, a nice change of pace from every other “spectacular.”
WDW basically exists to extort tourists out of their money. As long as the parks are busy, why offer customers a good experience that keeps them coming back? They’ve cut staff that there’s always a line of suckers at the door, right? Illuminations was due for a change, but rehashing Disney songs and trying to sell merchandise and music downloads is not going to get my time. Our family follows the parks and visits occasionally, but we haven’t had AP for years. We can afford it. WDW Orlando isn’t worth the value. I know. Plenty of other suckers to line up so we won’t be missed, but it’s a shame. We’re much bigger “Disney Fans” than ANY of the “Disney Executives” making shoddy decisions for the bean counters.
still no drones in the night sky?
Y’all haven’t even seen it yet and are not happy with it. I’ve seen Illuminations so many times I’m bored with it. Epcot needs a new show and this may be a really wonderful new show. Let it have a chance. The parks have to change with the times. Cannot stay the same forever.
Sorry we are not excited to see another “Let it go” remix. Is it good if all the parks have same projection based IP shows? I like seeing real fireworks!!! I’m bored with screens and projection mapping. They are like bubble snow it was cool at first but dumping soap suds on people does not make it the holidays. I would rather see the Osborne lights or the Epcot holiday light tunnel. I would also rather watch Mickey shoot real fireworks then movie clips from Star Wars or Prep and Landing projected badly on a building
That is the exact reason I am skeptical. I was hoping that the show to replace Illuminations would be innovative and fresh, not another generic firework show with Beauty and the Beast playing in the background. I’m not upset Illuminations is being replaced, I’m upset that the replacement isnt more creative. That being said, I could be wrong, and I hope i am.
Agree completely. I don’t think you will be wrong. Chapek is running Disney. He is ONLY interested in sales. Period. Whether you like it or not, he doesn’t care. Nobody there does. Sadly. They’re missing how huge and great they COULD be if they still ran for profit first, but put 1% of their effort into the ‘experience’.
Change would be fine if the unique IllumNations theme were kept. Changing it to be just like everything else is just conformity.
I’m one who LOVES change. BUT, Disney changes lately, aren’t very good for guests. This show will basically be an advertisement. The entire parks aren’t to be visited for fun and experience for guests. It’s to sell them more. Period. There was little shock that Chapek would make a show to advertise their movies and brand, but, it’s another disappointment.
I’m more excited about the interim show that the final one. What could be better than historic Epcot music? Doing Disney music sounds way too much like what you already get at Magic Kingdom. I’m a bit disappointed when I hear that announcement.
