Have you ever wondered which Disney princess is the most popular? CableTV has created a useful map of the United States displaying the results by state.
It should come as no surprise that Elsa and Anna are by far the most popular picks in over half the country. In fact, in South Carolina and Wisconsin the two are even tied for most popular. It’s no wonder why Frozen will be the first Disney princess franchise to ever get a proper theatrical sequel.
Ariel from The Little Mermaid won over a few states herself, most notably in Florida, home of Walt Disney World. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the princess of the sea won over a state known for its beautiful beaches (sorry Moana).
Aside from Ariel, Aladdin‘s Jasmine and the titular character from Pocahontas also made some admirable showings throughout the country.
Wyoming is the only state to have been won over by Merida, the heroine from Pixar’s Brave. Wyoming has a lot of bears so maybe there is a correlation here? Tiana from The Princess and the Frog also won over her home state of Louisiana, a rather fitting victory. The final princess to win over just one state is Meg from Hercules, taking over the state of North Carolina.
One of the oddest outcomes comes from the vast state of Utah where there was a five-way tie between Belle, Cinderella, Elsa, Rapunzel, and Snow White. There must be a lot of admiration going around for the Disney princesses in Utah.
Perhaps the most interesting outcome is the huge win from The Hunchback of Notre Dame‘s Esmeralda, who won over not only Oklahoma and Maryland, but California, home of Disneyland.
How exactly did CableTV determine these results? Their analyst team created a list of the sixteen most popular Disney princesses and heroines and ran them through Google Trends to determine which characters got the most traction over a one year period.
It will be interesting to see the public’s response to these princesses once we get to watch them interact together in the upcoming movie Ralph Breaks the Internet.
So which princess won in your state? How would you alter the map with your favorite Disney princesses? Let us know in the comments below.
Pochantas should of won Texas! We started as indians here! Such a classic movie!
Personally I think Rapunzel is #1 in all of fairy tale land with Merida a close 2nd allowing Elsa to take 3rd. I love their attitudes.
Hmmmm I think if they included tinkerbell in the mix the results would be vastly different
Esmeralda? In California? Haven’t seen any lil girl or anyone ever dress up as Esmeralda. She doesn’t even make appearances at Disneyland. Hmmmm
This article is about sells.
Esmeralda and Meg are not Disney princesses there is an official list from Disney with all the princesses. I would suggest you check your facts.
