REVIEW: New Beignet Burger Drifts In to Sassagoula Floatworks at Port Orleans French Quarter
Beignets are a fan favorite among snack offerings at Disney Parks and Resorts. Yesterday, the Port Orleans Resort changed the game forever by introducing the brand new Beignet Burger at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, the quick service café inside the French Quarter. For $14.49, you can get your hands on this instant classic. The burger comes on a beignet bun topped with American cheese, bacon jam, shredded lettuce, pickled onions and house pickles. It also comes with french fries and coleslaw as sides.
I’m really not sure what I was expecting with this one. It’s more or less just a regular burger with the novelty of a beignet as the bun. The bacon jam added a really interesting flavor that actually complimented the bun well. Furthermore, I felt as though the only real difference in flavor between this and any other burger was some added sweetness from the beignet. The burger was extremely messy. Shredded lettuce, bacon jam, and white powdered sugar fell all over my entire plate before I even took my first bite.
As a result, I ended up removing most of the lettuce and focusing on just finishing the burger. I think that having less ingredients would improve the burger. It is next to impossible to taste a significant difference in the beignet as opposed to a burger bun. I think removing some of the ingredients, especially the pickle and onion, would convey a much sweeter and beignet-like burger. In conclusion, I’d rate this burger a 6/10 as it really doesn’t offer anything special besides the novelty of having a beignet bun.
