We recently told you about the temporary closing of the Tomorrowland Speedway. It’ll be reopening later this spring, but for now, the roads are empty. While we were at Magic Kingdom, we spotted construction crews working in the area. Instead of noisy cars, we could hear the sound of demolition taking place on the Tomorrowland Speedway. We decided to investigate and see what changes might be coming. As we got closer, we realized that a large section of the track has been removed in certain areas.

Based on the scope of the work, it appears that this will be a larger alteration of the track layout that the one caused by Storybook Circus in 2011.

We can see barricades have been set up around the area that’s being worked on. Between the barricades, the concrete ride path is being broken up.

The Tomorrowland Speedway is set to reopen May 18th, 2019 and the TRON Roller Coaster is set to open in 2021.

  1. Walt Disney told his workers to “plus” things, i.e., make them better. I hope they will plus the Tomorrowland Speedway rather than minus-ing it.

  2. Internal combustion engines and freeways. Doesn’t sound like the world of Tomorrowland to me. Or is this 1955?

  3. I was hoping they would use this time to update the vehicles but seeing that they’re all sitting there I’m not holding my breath. Or, they are buying all new ones and going to surprise us!
