REVIEW: New Lion King Cupcake Debuts at Pizzafari in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

There’s a new cupcake in town, and this time, it’s all about the king. In honor of the 25th anniversary of “The Lion King”, Animal Kingdom has debuted a new Simba cupcake, and it’s gonna be the ‘mane’ event for sure.

This Lion King inspired cupcake is available at Pizzafari. The sign by the register sounds like a description I would have written. I guess that’s better than some of the mysterious cupcakes I’ve ordered recently. Either way, the sign promises a “yummy white chocolate mousse” and an “adorable edible image.” I definitely agree it’s adorable. Let’s hope the “yummy” part is accurate as well.

It’s a yellow cake base topped with yellow buttercream. It’s a small cupcake, but at least there isn’t a massive amount of frosting piled on top. It’s just the right ratio of cake to frosting. Surprisingly, the Simba piece is not white chocolate. It’s an edible image that’s more like a sugar sheet. It didn’t have much of a taste, but reminded me a flavorless taffy. It kind of just dissolves when you eat it. No real flavor value, but it’s still cute.

When we cut into the cake, it’s not easy to distinguish the filling at first glance. It’s a white chocolate mousse, so it blends in with the yellow cake. Although you can’t easily see it, you will definitely taste it. The sign was right. It is a yummy white chocolate mousse. It tasted just like melted white chocolate and the flavor really stands out. The yellow cake is fresh and the buttercream isn’t overly sweet, so it really comes together for the perfect cupcake. It’s $5.99, but it’s definitely one of the best cupcakes we’ve tried lately.

  1. I love this post! Thank you so much for your insight on all things Disney, but I was wondering if this cupcake is limited edition, or if it will be available for my May 2019 vist? Thanks again.
