Welcome to an Outdoor Kitchen review for the 2019 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, taking place from March 6 to June 3, 2019. This review will focus on Pineapple Promenade, located on the World Showcase Promenade across from the Port of Entry shop as you head toward the Canada Pavilion. Pineapple Promenade first appeared at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival in 2013, and returns for its seventh appearance this year.

Spicy Hot Dog with Pineapple Chutney and Plantain Chips – $8.00

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival Pineapple Promenade
Spicy Hot Dog with Pineapple Chutney and Plantain Chips – $8.00

Perhaps one of our (definitely Tom’s) favorite returning items is the spicy hot dog. You receive a full hot dog for your money, slathered in pineapple chutney and crumbled plantain chips. The hot dog delivers on flavor and spice. Each bite has a pop against the perfectly cooked exterior leading to a wonderfully spicy interior. The chutney adds a cool pineapple flavor and the chips add a nice crunch. It’s a filling dish and best shared if you plan on enjoying the rest the festival has to offer.

Pineapple Soft-serve Ice Cream with Fanta® (non-alcoholic) (KA) – $6.00

Pineapple Soft-serve Ice Cream with Fanta® – $6.00

Pineapple Fanta fills the bottom of this cup. The pineapple Dole Whip mixed with the soda works very well and surprisingly isn’t overpowering. The only problem you’re going to run into with Flower & Garden is A) the portion of Dole Whip and B) how icy it comes out, to the point of almost being flavorless. Typically the version at Magic Kingdom is very light and airy, this comes out stiff and dense. It’s still the only place to get the soft serve in Epcot, so if you feel the price is worth saving a trip to the Polynesian or the Magic Kingdom…

Frozen Dessert Violet Lemonade (non-alcoholic) (KA) – $4.25

A slush so iconic they had to make Minnie ears to match them. Much to our chagrin, we had never officially reviewed this festival staple before, and we can now proudly say that the admiration is much deserved. The Violet Lemonade slush is sweet, refreshing, and takes a nice picture.

Pineapple Beer Flight:  Coastal Empire Beer Co. Coco Piña Gose, Savannah, GA (3.8% ABV), Maui Brewing Co. Pineapple Mana Wheat, Kihei, HI (5.5% ABV), SweetWater Brewing Company Goin’ Coastal IPA with Pineapple, Atlanta, GA (6.1% ABV) – $9.50

Pineapple Beer Flight:  Coastal Empire Beer Co. Coco Piña Gose, Savannah, GA (3.8% ABV), Maui Brewing Co. Pineapple Mana Wheat, Kihei, HI (5.5% ABV), SweetWater Brewing Company Goin’ Coastal IPA with Pineapple, Atlanta, GA (6.1% ABV) – $9.50

Take note that the Playalinda Brewing Company Violet Lemonade Ale isn’t included on the flight. The Cast Member said they couldn’t substitute beers unfortunately, so we’re certainly going back for that one. Regardless, expect a very fruity flight of beer. The Coco Piña is very sour beer with lingering pineapple and coconut flavors. Pineapple Mana is a wheat beer and it has strong notes of the wheat flavor mixed with a pungent pineapple. The Goin’ Coastal IPA is a hop-forward beer with trailing flavors of pineapple. Whenever fruit is involved with beer it’s difficult to find brews that don’t taste like artificial fruit, and all of these taste natural. It’s worth your time to try three unique beers.

Coastal Empire Beer Co. Coco Piña Gose, Savannah, GA (3.8% ABV) – $4.50

From Coastal Empire Beer Co.: “Coco Piña Gose is a tropical take on the classic sour German Gose style brewed with pineapple, coconut, pink Himalayan salt and Atlantic sea salt.”

Maui Brewing Co. Pineapple Mana Wheat, Kihei, HI (5.5% ABV) – $4.50

From Maui Brewing Co.: “Maui Gold pineapple gives sweet aroma to this smooth-bodied, tropical brew.”

SweetWater Brewing Company Goin’ Coastal IPA with Pineapple, Atlanta, GA (6.1% ABV) – $4.50

From SweetWater Brewing Company: “Slip into some sunshine and step off the grid by Goin’ Coastal with this pineapple laced IPA. The bright aromas of the five citrus hop additions are accentuated by the tropical fruit of the pineapple. And just like those three day weekends, its finish is quick. Golden copper in color with a full malt bill to bring the balance to our year round offering.”

Playalinda Brewing Company Violet Lemonade Ale, Titusville, FL (5.2% ABV) – $4.50

From Walter P. on Untappd: “Tastes like flowers. A little tart from the lemonade, but light and easy drinking.”

Florida Orange Groves Winery Sparkling Pineapple Wine, St. Petersburg, FL ($30/bottle) – $11.75

From Florida Orange Groves Winery: “Our sparkling Pineapple wine offers you and your palate a crisp and refreshing taste of Florida in a bottle. Made from 100% pineapple juice you won’t need to imagine hints of flavors or finishing notes.”
