According to The Asahi Shimbun, the Oriental Land Company, which operates Tokyo Disney Resort under license from Disney, is planning to introduce an app-based FastPass distribution service ahead of the opening of Soarin’ at Tokyo DisneySea this July 23rd.
Paper FastPasses will still be available for those without smartphones or prefer the old method (or simply like to collect paper FastPasses!)

Guests will still have to wait a certain period of time before they can obtain their next FastPass. However, it is still not known whether this service will require some form of payment or premium like the MaxPass service in Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

With crowds at Tokyo Disney Resort at an all-time high, FastPasses are becoming increasingly hard to find and tend to go quickly, especially for character meet and greets, which are exceedingly popular amongst guests there.
The Tokyo Disney Resort App launched last June and allows guests to enter the park with a ticket on the app and reserve tables in restaurants in advance. For now, the app seems only available in Japan and can be downloaded in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. We expect it will not be long before the Tokyo Disney Resort app is available in more countries, but we can only wait until that happens.
Here at WDWNT, we’re particularly obsessed with Tokyo Disney Resort, especially Tokyo DisneySea. Follow us on Twitter for all of our #WDWNTokyo adventures!
