John Wick Defeats The Avengers At The Box Office As “Avengers: Endgame” Drops To Second Place

It had to happen eventually. After three weeks of “Avengers: Endgame” ruling the box office, the third chapter in the John Wick franchise topped “Avengers: Endgame” and took over the number one spot. “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” brought in $57 million at the domestic box office, while “Avengers: Endgame” brought in $29 million.

In its fourth weekend, “Endgame” brought in $29 million domestically and $46 million internationally. In addition, “Endgame” also brought in $54 million worldwide during its weekday showings. In total, “Endgame” has made $771 million domestically and $1.844 billion internationally, bringing its worldwide box office total to $2.615 billion.

Even though “Endgame” fell to the number two spot at the box office, all is not bad news for “Endgame”. “Endgame” has passed “Avatar” to become the second highest grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office. “Avatar” previously held the number two spot with a total of $761 million, but was beat by “Endgame” this weekend with a total of $771 million. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” holds the number one spot for the domestic highest grossing movie of all time with $937 million. This is one record that “Endgame” will not beat, but……

With “Endgame” now reaching $2.615 billion worldwide, it is getting even closer to dethroning “Avatar” as the worldwide highest grossing movie off all time. “Avatar” has a worldwide gross of $2.788 billion, which means “Endgame” needs to bring in $173 million worldwide to beat it.

With Memorial Day weekend coming up, “Endgame’s” biggest competition will be “John Wick 3” and the debut of “Aladdin”. Memorial Day weekend usually has a strong box office, especially with families.

In regards to the debut of “Aladdin”, Disney will be ending the review embargo this Wednesday, which is only two days before the official release date, and that is not necessarily a good sign that the studio has confidence in the movie’s performance. “John Wick 3” is rated R, and although it will still have a strong box office weekend, it will not attract families going to the theater.

So “Endgame” still has some steam in it for the next two weekends. But then again, Godzilla is coming the following weekend.
