While on an early morning visit to the Magic Kingdom, we spotted a lot of activity taking place on the Tomorrowland Speedway. A lot of people are hard at work to get the track ready to reopen soon. Painting, track repairs, and landscaping were all well underway on our visit.
“Tomorrowland Speedway” has always been painted on the track and visible from the PeopleMover. We noticed some painters prepping the ground for a fresh coat of paint. With painters tape, they carefully outlined the blue lettering to start painting the yellow around it.
The painting started quickly after the taping. You can’t miss that bright yellow color from the PeopleMover.
The entrance to the attraction has been getting painted lately as well. The walls are still white, so we’re hoping that will change. The pointed pieces on the roof had a black and white checkered flag pattern before. We could make out the black checkered portion on the roof before, but now it’s undetectable. It looks like they finally painted enough white to cover them up completely.
The walls around the track, closer to the Space Mountain exit, are getting a quick paint job. They’re getting painted an off-white base coat type of color. Hopefully they don’t just leave these completely white.
Lots of workers out in the newly finished track. We can see portions of the track barricaded off while workers make repairs.
A tech has been moving the cars around all morning, too. I can just imagine the noise around here once they reopen.
It looks like there might be some landscaping taking place soon. Patches of grass are being loaded onto a truck, and the fences are open.
Another crew works on painting at the end of the track.
The Tomorrowland Speedway is set to reopen in late May. Are you excited to take a drive on the new track? Or will you miss the peace and quiet after they reopen?
When are they going to ditch the stinky, loud, ancient gas motors? Nothing about the future says gasoline.
I understand the nostalgia behind this ride but the smell of gasoline is horrendous while you wait in line. I was hoping the refurbishment might lead to the introduction of electric go-carts instead. Modernizing but keeping it classic. Guess some paint and track changes is all we got.
