It was a close race to the finish, but it looks like “Avengers: Endgame” has finally dethroned the king of the box office, “Avatar”, to become the highest grossing movie of all time.
As of Friday, “Endgame” had accumulated $2.7892 billion at the worldwide box office. “Avatar” had previously held the record with $2.7897 billion. And although there is still a gap of less than $500 thousand, the box office results for this weekend will put “Endgame” over the top.
Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige shared the news to fans during the Marvel Studios Panel at the SDCC by saying, “Thanks to you, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all-time.”
Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn also released a statement confirming the good news. “A huge congratulations to the Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios teams, and thank you to the fans around the world who lifted Avengers: Endgame to these historic heights.”
