Despite the unflattering reviews out there, “The Lion King” managed to conquer the box office with a record-breaking opening weekend.

“The Lion King” made $185 million at the domestic box, along with an additional $346 million overseas, bringing its worldwide box office total to $531 million. The film broke the record for the best domestic opening for a PG film.

“Toy Story 4” finished in third place, bringing in $14.6 million domestically. So far, “Toy Story 4” has made $859 million worldwide.

“Aladdin” is still chugging along at seventh place and brought in an additional $3.8 million, which brings its worldwide box office total to $988 million. “Aladdin” should cross the $1 billion mark sometime this week. This would make “Aladdin” the third Disney movie, and the only studio, to achieve this impressive feat this year. The other films are “Captain Marvel” and “Avengers: Endgame”.

And speaking of “Avengers: Endgame”, the estimates for this weekend are in and it is official: at $2.790 billion, “Endgame” is the highest-grossing movie of all time. It now tops “Avatar” at the box office by $2 million. That’s quite an accomplishment, and it is still not done yet.
