REVIEW: New Rafiki Cupcake Shines Over the Herd at Restaurantosaurus at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

We’ve seen a lot of Lion King merch and treats this whole summer with the release of the new movie, and there’s still new additions popping up into the Disney Parks! We found this new Rafiki cupcake today at Restaurantosaurus in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

This is a yellow cake cupcake, with a banana flavored mousse in the middle, topped with buttercream frosting, coconut shavings around the edge, and a fondant image of Rafiki with green buttercream leaves.

I have to admit, I had low expectations going into eating this cupcake, but it changed my mind. A common complaint for Disney cupcakes has always been that the cake is very dry, but this cake was actually decently moist all the way through. I liked the color swirl in the frosting and the themed wrapping (even though there aren’t any tigers in The Lion King).

The banana mousse in the middle was a slightly unappetizing grey color, but it was actually pretty tasty and refreshing, and paired very well with the moist yellow cake. There could have been a bit more of the filling for my tastes, but what was there tasted good. My cupcake was served chilled, so the buttercream frosting was slightly difficult to cut through, but I actually enjoyed that today as well, it tasted a bit less sugary than most of the other buttercream frosting I’ve had on Disney cupcakes.

Overall, I would come back and get this cupcake again. I really liked the banana flavored filling, as unappealing as it was in color. You can find this at Restaurantosaurus in Dinoland, U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, priced at $5.99.
