Before there was a Disney Skyliner, there was the Skyway. Linking Fantasyland to Tomorrowland, this gondola lift attraction transported guests in Disneyland from 1956 to 1994 and here at Walt Disney World from 1971 to 1999. (You may recall that the former Fantasyland station used to reside where the current Tangled-themed bathrooms are now.) And who could ever forget 20,000 Leagues? Another fan favorite attraction lost to “unplanned [expensive] maintenance”, all that remains of the famed undersea attraction are a few Easter eggs scattered throughout the Magic Kingdom…

Oh, and a new shirt at Disney Springs, too. Actually, two new shirts. One for each of the extinct attractions. We first spotted these over at Disneyland, but they have since made their way to World of Disney in Disney Springs. Let’s take a look!

The aquamarine sweater features classic artwork depicting the giant squid and Harper Goff’s iconic Nautilus submarine design from the attraction.

The hooded longsleeve sweater features a classic Skyway bucket with clouds on the back and the attraction logo.

The back of the shirt features the bolded Skyway logo again, but this time going vertically instead of horizontally. Since all versions of this attraction took riders back and forth between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, the route from Tomorrowland was called Skyway to Fantasyland, and the route from Fantasyland was called Skyway to Tomorrowland. Both are featured on the sweater in red.

A “Skyway to Fantasyland” shirt was released earlier this year, giving off a more retro look than the style we see here today.

What do you think of these vintage merchandise items? Are there any extinct attractions you want to see on merchandise? Where’s my Mr. Toad t-shirt?
