When the Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake debuted at Trilo-Bites back in 2017, we were smitten. The food kiosk in Dinoland U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom was already a favorite stop of ours, mostly for the delicious Buffalo Chicken Chips dish. For years now, we’ve enjoyed the Smokey Bones Shake in all its bacon-y, bourbon-y goodness, only to find that it’s been replaced by… a plain Oreo shake.
Thankfully, the classic Buffalo Chicken Chips are still around, as is the Bugs ‘N Grubs cone, which is also surprisingly good. (It was supposed to be a limited-time offering for The Lion King, but I digress.) What we’re here for is what’s labeled “Milk Shake” on the menu, with just Oreo Cookie as the only flavor option, for $5.49.
Oreo Cookie Milk Shake – $5.49
The shake is served in a plastic cup with whipped cream, Oreo cookie crumbles, and a maraschino cherry on top.
By the way, that’s all that’s done by hand, as the milkshakes aren’t blended to order and instead pre-mixed and dispensed out of this machine.
There’s nothing wrong with this shake. It’s really just… an Oreo shake. The main issue we had was the fact that paper straws still prevail, and they’re horrible to drink milkshakes out of. We suggest bringing your own reusable straw if you have one, or go get spoons to scoop it out. The shake is thick, and won’t fit through one of the paper straws. We had to wait for it to melt before being able to drink it out of the cup.
All in all, while the Oreo shake wasn’t a bad addition, it was virtually a snack crime to remove the Smokey Bones Chocolate Shake from the menu, and we’ll never be the same without it.
If you’re looking to try this Oreo shake, or mourn the loss of Smokey Bones, you can find Trilo-Bites located just over the bridge from Discovery Island into the area, right next door to the “Olden-gate Bridge”.
That’s just sad…the Smokey Bones shake was fantastic! I don’t see many people being interested in such an insipid replacement. The oreo shake doesn’t even offer the virtue signaling of the vegan hysteria.
