Celebrating its 23rd season, “it’s a small world” Holiday is back! New to the overlay this year are three interactive smells: a cherry blossom fragrance in Asia, a holiday cinnamon scent in South America and the smell of coconut and bubbles in the South Seas. So, let’s board the happiest cruise ever sailed and take a trip around the world to celebrate the holidays.
The “Happy Holidays” sign returns to the start of the ride this year, providing a playful, inviting introduction to the whimsical world inside.
An early scene in the ride features the North Pole, and the home to certain jolly man who knows the holiday season well. And hey, snow in Southern California! If that isn’t a holiday miracle, I don’t know what is.
I guess he does tend to get a lot of mail around this time of year.
We enjoyed the holiday pine smell in the England area. It’s been there for the past few years, but it’s always welcome.
The children of Europe wish the world Seasons Greetings.
The one thing in this ride that changes every year: the year in the Parisian New Year’s scene!
It’s time for a Vrolijk Kersfeest in the Netherlands! (That means “Merry Christmas.”)
It’ll be a sweet new year on the gingerbread bridge! (And be sure to keep your eyes out for Pinocchio!)
There was a jasmine smell in the Indian area, which was nice.
It’s even a happy holiday in the jungles of Southeast Asia.
And the Three Caballeros celebrate the season in Mexico. (But if you want more, you can always head to Disney California Adventure for ¡Viva Navidad!) We didn’t notice the cinnamon scent that was supposed to be in the South America scene.
In the Pacific and Polynesian section, Lilo and Stitch usher in the season, as garlands and masks to represent Santa’s reindeer decorate the scene. There’s a tropical coconut smell in the Polynesian area which, reminded us of Soarin’ Around the World. It’s a welcome help when it comes to It’s a Small World.
Santa tiki statues hold up a “Mele Kalikimaka” sign.
As we reach the grand finale, lights twinkle and shine to enhance the experience. This snowman wishing everyone Happy Holidays is a highlight of the room.
Large holly bunches and snowflakes help make the finale the biggest scene of the ride as it comes to a close…
But not before one last wish for “Peace on Earth.”
“it’s a small world” Holiday is one of our favorite overlays of the season. There’s always so much to look at, and the extra little touches with the smells and bubbles will have us coming back for more this year. We do recommend grabbing a FastPass for this attraction though, as lines can get long during the day.
“it’s a small world” Holiday 2019 runs in tangent with Holidays at the Disneyland Resort from November 8th, 2019 – January 6th, 2020. If you aren’t able to make it out to Disneyland during that timeframe, don’t worry as we have a full ride-through of this year’s overlay below!
