Every time we visit the New Fantasyland expansion at Tokyo Disneyland, there’s always something new to surprise us! And if you’re reading this, I’m sure you’re interested in the latest progress as well. So let’s take a tour of the latest progress, including a couple of special surprises. You can watch our video below, or take a stroll with pictures further down. Let’s go!
Minnie’s Style Studio
Not much has changed over at Minnie’s Style Studio. This area is pretty much done, with mostly incidental work regarding decor and vegetation in progress.
Belle’s Village & New Fantasyland
If we take a well-placed peek over the walls, we can see the outdoor dining area for La Taverne de Gaston is complete! equipment is mostly gone, save for a light, and tables and chairs have been placed.
A second bypass path between the village and Toontown appears to be complete as well.
Work on the interior decor of the Village Shops is underway, it seems. Lots of shelves and decorative items can be seen through the door, which leads me to wonder what else is in there we can’t see? Guess we’ll find out in April!
Seeing the castle from the village is just incredible! Let’s get a closer look.
Closer inspection of the castle reveals scaffolds down on the dome towards the left, and the scaffolds on the front are on their way down as well. Won’t be too long before this is uncovered entirely and we can see the full majesty of the Beast’s castle!
From the front, it’s easier to appreciate the new features visible on the castle.
This huge flanking wall came out today! Featuring four gargoyles perched on top, it adds to the sheer majesty of the castle.
And over on the other side, the lower areas have also had their scaffolding taken down. The castle very nicely disappears into the trees, and I look forward to seeing how it looks from the other side of this gate.
On the other side of walls closer to the village, these posts with fans were installed. I have to wonder if this is the extended queue for The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast. Maybe these fans are to keep Guests cool in the summer? It gets pretty hot and humid, and the Soaring queue also features hidden fans, so this is certainly possible.
The Happy Ride with Baymax
The real treat this week was finally seeing inside The Happy Ride with Baymax! While it’s nothing too different from Hollywood Studios’ Alien Swirling Saucers on a fundamental level, it’s nice still to see how the ride will appear.
The ride vehicles are all placed and wrapped up in foil. If you look closely, you can see Baymax through some of the wrappings. Tokyo Disney Resort gave us a sneak peek at these ride vehicles last week, and they’re pretty incredible! We’ve also been hearing through Twitter that the ride has been running tests on occasion, which means the critical work is pretty much done!
And that’s the latest from New Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland! We’re getting pretty down to the wire here, only 71 days left until the grand opening! What are you most excited for? Let us know below or on Twitter!
