REVIEW: New Gus Gus Cinderella Cupcake Takes the Cheese at Disney’s All-Star Resorts

Someone find the All-Star Resorts bakery team and give them some kind of cupcake creativity award now. It seems the creative spirit of the Walt Disney Company is indeed still alive within their culinary department.

Walt Disney World is currently celebrating the 70th anniversary of “Cinderella.” Until now, the cupcakes created in the film’s honor have been limited to blue carriages and slippers. But the All-Star Resorts knew this would be too easy of a challenge, and they are in it to win the Cinderella game: Gus Gus the mouse now has his own cupcake!

Look at all the Gus Gus details! The blue hat, the yellow packaging, the pink ears, the red nose, the cheese… We love how much detail they put into it, from the yellow liner to the hat.

Ok, so 10 out of 10 on presentation. Now for the other half of the equation: the taste.

Gus Gus was excellent. The fondant ears are two colors of fondant put together for the inside and the outside. They weren’t very good (like all fondant), so just remove them and enjoy the rest of the treat.

The blue hat buttercream is just your typical buttercream, but the brown is peanut butter. The flavor isn’t too much in your face, but it’s a very creamy and smooth peanut butter flavor.

The center is marshmallow cream — and who doesn’t love chocolate, peanut butter, and marshmallow? It’s not overly sweet, and it’s absolutely perfect. It’s a nice, creamy marshmallow with plenty of filling. The cheese is actually white chocolate.

But now, we have some sad news.

The second half of our Gus Gus was blown off our plate by the wind. We know all good things come to an end, but we at least wanted to enjoy the whole cupcake. This is especially unlucky, because it was one of the better cupcakes.

You can find the Gus Gus at each of the All-Star Resort food courts for $5.99.

What do you think about Gus as a cupcake?

  1. Mouse ears on an item that isn’t Minnie or Mickey? That just seems so… so… misleading?
