Journey of Water Inspired by Moana at EPCOT Reportedly Slated to Open in 2021

Journey of Water Inspired by Moana was officially announced just last year at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. As we first mentioned in our original Project Gamma post, the presence of a water maze area, known as Journey of Water, would be the final component of the reimagined EPCOT. This trail will consist of a number of water features and will also be a child-friendly experience. Now, a hint embedded within this morning’s EPCOT serigraph poster series release points at a potential opening timeframe for the attraction.

The attraction poster features the goddess Te Fiti and a family walking through, interacting with the various water elements.

The poster description listed on shopDisney states the following:

“Celebrate the new aquatic adventure at the reimagined Epcot with this limited edition print promoting the forthcoming Moana-inspired Journey of Water walkthrough maze. Featuring the goddess Te Fiti from the 2016 movie, the poster is printed on archival paper and will whet your appetite for the attraction’s 2021 opening at Walt Disney World.”

“Journey of Water inspired by Moana is scheduled to open at Epcot in 2021.”

Do note that Project Gamma, which covers the entrance redesign and the gutting of central Future World, is slated for a 2022 completion date. As it stands, what remains of Innoventions West (at least the former Art of Disney section) still has to be demolished in order to make room for the attraction, and with the ongoing park closures due to COVID-19 and the halting of construction across property, these projects may be even further delayed. shopDisney wouldn’t be our go-to source for park news like this, but as these dates are technically listed on an official Disney site, it’s worth sharing… just take it with a grain of (sea) salt.

A Journey of Water mock-up model is on display at the EPCOT Experience inside the Odyssey Pavilion, along with the full collection of EPCOT posters lining the outside of the exhibit’s walls. Once the parks reopen, make sure you drop in and check out the space. Who knows? With some projects potentially moved to the backburner during the extended closure, there may even be some changes evident.

    • Touching same surface? So literally every ride in every park? And the water can be sanitized. Extremely easy too at that.
