While the Tokyo Disney Resort (including most of the Ikspiari) remains closed through at least mid-May 2020, three shops on the first level of Ikspiari reopened on April 13th. These three stores serve locals that live around the Maihama area – a pharmacy, grocery store, and dentist.

From the Maihama Station/Resort Line level, it looks the same as always. The main gates remain closed, with a security guard patrolling. This protocol was in place even before this week’s break-in attempt.

Signs on the gates inform visitors that the complex is still closed, save for the three “essential” businesses. The first floor is open from 10am to 9pm every day.

Once you go downstairs outside, you can enter. You’re immediately greeted with an alcohol sanitizer station and a sign asking for cooperation in Japanese, English, and Mandarin Chinese. It’s interesting to me that there’s no request for Guests to wear masks, but almost everyone I saw was.

The first essential business, the Medi+Plus pharmacy, is right inside the door. They only allow 10 people inside at a time, since it’s a very small store.

Any attempts to exit through any door other than the open one are met with a rope and a sign saying “do not enter” in Japanese.

The same goes for the staircases and escalators that travel to the second floor. Even this one to the main entrance plaza is roped off.

The Tokyo Disney Resort Ticket Center also remains closed. Ticket sales have been suspended since April 3rd.

The rest of the complex, including the clothes stores and restaurants, remains closed. No Krispy Kreme or Starbucks for us today.

It’s a bit of a schlep down to the Seijo Ishi supermarket at the very end of the first floor hallway. This is the closest supermarket for those who live near Maihama Station, so locals can once again get their daily necessities here rather than having to trek to the Shin-Urayasu or Urayasu areas.

And down a hallway past the grocery store is the Mermaid Dental Clinic.

Some services were not in operation. Coin lockers and the phone charging stations were both closed off.

Restrooms and the 7-Eleven Bank ATM were still available, however.

While this isn’t necessarily indicative of things returning to normal at Tokyo Disney Resort, these services returning certainly benefits the locals. Hopefully we will see normality soon enough.
