A new aerial photo shows that Universal Studios Japan is getting close to being able to “press start” on Super Nintendo World.
A new aerial photo from Instagram user @imaiko02 shows the new land rapidly nearing completion. If you look towards the top of the land, you can see the ride vehicles for the Yoshi-themed ride, where guests will ride on the back of the beloved dinosaur on a tour of the land.
It appears guests will access the land through a tunnel themed to the green pipes Mario and Luigi use to travel around the Mushroom Kingdom.
Details were officially revealed at a Global Kick Off Presentation back in January. The other attraction that will be found in Super Nintendo World will be a ride themed to Mario Kart that puts guests “in the driver’s seat.” And what’s a Nintendo-themed land without a game?Around the land, guests can purchase a Power-Up Band to take part in a “multi-level game area filled with one-of-a-kind challenges.” And you can do your best Mario impression by punching Question Mark Blocks. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get an upgrade! (If so, please shoot fireballs or fly around responsibly.)
There’s been no confirmed opening date for Super Nintendo World, but Universal Studios Japan is scheduled to reopen to annual passholders on June 8th, and the general public on June 19th. Of course, if your trip to Japan “is in another castle,” you could wait until the land opens as part of the newest theme park at Universal Orlando, Universal’s Epic Universe, expected to open in 2023.
