Earlier this week, Walt Disney World updated their official face mask policy, to state that guests must now remain stationary whilst eating and drinking within the parks and resorts. This move was made to prevent guests from walking around carrying a beverage, for instance, with their face mask removed as they drink on-the-go. Now, clear signage has gone up around the resort to reflect this new rule.
The signage reads “Face coverings are to be worn at all times except when actively eating drinking while stationary and physically distanced”.
Although a particularly wordy sign, this ruling is clear enough in its message.
Understandably, this signage is also clearly displayed at locations where food and beverages can be purchased.
This update comes with the recent start of the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, an occasion which usually spurs guests to spend large amounts of time carrying drinks or dishes of food around the park, hunting for a table (or trash can) to rest on. In this situation, crowds of people could potentially be mask-free, which is obviously not ideal given the circumstances.
What do you think about this new rule, and do you think the signage accurately describes the logic behind it?
we were there a few days ago, half the seating areas were closed and some open were directly in the sun. By the time you would buy icecream and find a seat , you would have to drink it
Ok this seems a bit rigid to me, really not too thrilled with full day masks anyways in 100 degrees but we like to eat popcorn while walking and drinking our frozen lemonades while walking this is ridiculous!
Good rule. We’re fed up with the limitations, but we want to fight off this friggin’ virus so we won’t need the limitations.
What if, in the case of drinking something, I can use a self-built straw that snakes around the mask (hence I can drink with the mask still on properly)? I figured I could try it in the parks and see if a CM sees it and says something (good or bad). It’s made with connectors and I’d planned to clean it and use it everywhere I have a cold drink.
How much more of hit to the Guest experience is Disney going to impose? Outside of die hard fans and Florida residents, who is going to put up with this nonsense at the parks? At this point, expect nothing less.
