Heavy Rainfall Expected in Central Florida This Weekend as Tropical Depression 19 Approaches

The National Hurricane Center reported on Twitter that Tropical Depression 19 has formed east of Florida’s southern coast. The storm strengthened into a tropical depression around 5:00 pm and is expected to drop heavy rainfall from central to southern Florida.

Currently, a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the southeast coast. The rainfall is expected to cause flash flooding in central Florida and all points south of there. The current flooding along the rivers and streams in this area will likely last longer due to the downpour.

Although wind speeds are currently only at tropical storm levels, they are expected to strengthen into hurricane strength by early next week. The winds will likely strike coastal areas from Florida’s panhandle to Louisiana as the storm moves across the Gulf of Mexico. Residents living in these areas should monitor the storm’s progress to get updates concerning high winds and storm surges.
