Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort is famous for its Kitchen Sink Sundae, which Cast Members would announce to the entire restaurant by a raucous display of yelling, sirens, and clapping.
Even when the restaurant reopened in June, the tradition continued—with Cast Members performing in face masks. However, after careful review of health & safety measures, that tradition is now suspended.
When bringing the Kitchen Sink to a table, sirens would go off in the restaurant and a Cast Member would announce the ingredients of the sundae as they carried it to the table. When they yelled, “A whole can of whipped cream!” guests would respond, “A whole can?!” Though the celebration was still happening when Beaches & Cream first reopened following this summer’s closure, they have now received guidance to discontinue it for now. With guests not wearing masks while eating, yelling and cheering could create more infected droplets in the air than is safe. Cast Members at the location are unsure when the tradition will return.
What do you think of the lack of “special treatment” for Kitchen Sink orders? Will you be holding off on ordering the massive dessert until the announcements return? Let us know in the comments! And below, watch us receiving our own Kitchen Sink shortly after the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop refurbishment last year.
I was there for supper on 9/16. There was no announcement for the one Kitchen Sink order that happened while I was there. I was extremely grateful for that.
When I was there in September 2016, I couldn’t have a conversation with my mother because a Kitchen Sink was brought out about every five minutes or so. There were seven Kitchen Sinks and two birthdays in about 90 minutes.
I’ve experienced it a few times and it was great and a lot of fun . But , I would still definitely go back even without the announcement of a whole can of whipped cream !
Eh- I don’t need the whole place to know I’m eating a kitchen sink by myself…
Next the overlords will forbid singing, laughing and smiling.
So they wont even have the sirens go? I understand they shouldn’t be yelling with the patrons, but why cant they keep the sirens
