Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment. A new version of the signature crossbeam roof is being installed at the Great Ceremonial House. A majority of the resort’s rooms are closed. Only Disney Vacation Club studios and bungalows are available to guests at this time.
We visited the resort to see what progress has been made.

Additional crossbeams have been added since our last visit.

One of the crossbeams is missing its partner.

A walkway allows construction workers to access the roof.

A work basket is attached to the horizontal beam.

Inside the Great Ceremonial House lobby, work continues on the second elevator. The left elevator was previously closed.

The glass roof panels have been covered to prevent damage during construction. Note the lobby furniture reflecting in the glass.

From the pool area, we get another look at the crossbeams.

The resort’s monorail station is closed. A good deal of work is happening under the platform. This sidewalk has recently been poured.

The area close to the main entrance doors has been stripped to bare earth. The entrance is currently not in use. Check in has moved to Pago Pago.

Support columns are enclosed in plywood sheeting.

The vegetation here has been mostly removed.

A pile of soil sits just below the bridge that connects the monorail platform to the Great Ceremonial House second floor.

The resort’s porte cochère won’t be welcoming guests anytime soon. Roll-off dumpsters and construction equipment fill the area.
When the refurbishment finished, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will pay tribute to the original design while introducing a more striking entrance.
The resort is scheduled to fully reopen in Summer 2021.
