ClickOrlando.com‘s Mark Lehman reported that Goddard spoke at the Alliance for Regional Transportation Education Series, held at the site of Brightline’s future station at Orlando International Airport.

With regards to the station, Goddard stated that Disney Springs will be a vital stop in their expansion, connecting Orlando to Florida’s west coast, saying, “I think it’s going to dramatically change the face of our transportation network for decades to come.”

The $2.4 billion project will run from Miami to Orlando. Currently, the line’s northern terminus is in West Palm Beach. On the expansion, Goddard said, “I view our job for Brightline is to get people from hub to hub. We’re very excited to get the current system opened,” adding “this is a very diverse market and it is a perfect market for intercity passenger rail.”

Another target for Brightline is Cocoa on the state’s eastern coast, as he explained: “Cocoa and the Space Coast generally is experiencing pretty significant growth and attention as the space industry starts to take off.”

The extension to Orlando International Airport is currently scheduled to open before the end of 2022.
