Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, announced two brand-new “Star Wars” theatrical films at the recent Disney Investor Day 2020 event.

Untitled Star Wars Film by Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) is set to helm a currently untitled Star Wars film. Though no specifics were provided, Kennedy said of Waititi and the film:

“Taika’s approach to Star Wars will be fresh, unexpected and unique. His enormous talent and sense of humor will ensure that audiences are in for an unforgettable ride.”

“Star Wars: Rogue Squadron”

“Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” is being directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman films). The film is slated for a Christmas 2023 release. Describing the film, Kathleen Kennedy stated:

“This story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride. The legend of Rogue Squadron has been long beloved by Star Wars fans and will move us into a future era of the Galaxy. “
