Delays on TRON Lightcycle Run at the Magic Kingdom Quietly Confirmed

It’s going to be a slow download to get to The Grid in the Magic Kingdom. In a new piece from USA Today showcasing the offerings coming to Disney Parks in 2021 and beyond, it’s been confirmed that TRON Lightcycle / Run won’t open during Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary later this year.

The report, which also features quotes from Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro, says that “the coaster isn’t expected to open during the park’s 50th birthday year.” Whether that means that it won’t be open in 2021 or not until Fall 2022, after the full year from the anniversary has passed, is yet to be seen. Previously, rumors indicated that Disney was waiting for additional cash flow to complete the project, which was not listed as one of “priority.”

Just a few days ago, we noticed that the section where the track heads outdoors into the illuminated canopy structure had been walled off, likely to shield the indoors from the elements until interior work resumes.

All in all, changes big and small are coming to the Magic Kingdom, even if they may take a while to arrive.

  1. wow what a shame ! the crown jewel of all parks, the one that started it all isn’t getting a new attraction on its birthday. Choice cuss words are coming in my mouth, but I wanna keep this PG. I know that there will be no instant prizes, new parades like during past anniversaries (15th in 1986), Atleast there was hope that TRON was coming.
