Tokyo Disney Resort takes a more Japanese approach to New Years than the parks elsewhere. For the first week of the new year (extended all the way to January 30th this year), Mickey, Minnie, and several other Disney Friends dress up in traditional Japanese clothing such as kimono and greet Guests at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. This year, we were lucky enough to enjoy the New Year’s Greeting at Tokyo Disneyland, and you can imagine you’re here with us through YouTube!

Truly a unique perspective compared to other New Years festivites at theme parks around the world, isn’t it? It’s always quite fascinating to see how Tokyo Disney Resort blends traditional Japanese culture with western culture.

This is just the latest in a string of themed greetings overlaid on the Mickey & Friends Greeting Parade, after seeing a Very Very Minnie version and a Christmas version as well! The difference here is the New Year’s Greeting is typically only one float in normal times, so this version isn’t much of an adjustment. The New Year’s version runs through January 31st, and these themed greetings are likely to continue until Dreaming Up! can safely return in the future.
