Last month we heard word that A Day in the Park with Barney, a live show at Universal Studios Orlando, may close permanently. Today that speculation has been confirmed.
In response to a fan on Twitter, the Universal Orlando Resort Twitter account stated that the Barney show would no longer run, for good.
In addition to being on TV, Universal Studios Florida had this long running show in the park based on the children’s TV character. The show brought Barney, BJ, and Baby Bop to life on stage in front of audiences daily, thanks to a little imagination and help from Mr. or Mrs. Peek A Boo.
The Barney meet and greet outside in KidZone was ended in early 2021, and the show has not run since Universal Studios Florida shut down the show last August.

That’s too bad. Say what you will about Barney, but he is a rare example of a character who could appear in a theme park exactly as you see him on TV, which is pretty cool for kids who are fans.
Barney was a big part of my older kids’ childhood. The youngest did not have that as much, but all three enjoyed the Universal Barney show. On a recent trip I was excited to see the Barney quartet out to say hi despite covid restrictions. That said, I am surprised at how long they’ve been around, as they don’t seem as relevant to the current crop of preschoolers. I will miss you, but I think that area of the park is due for an update!
This was one of the only attractions in the park that isn’t overwhelming to those on the autism spectrum. I hope they replace it with something just as calming.
I will definitely miss it barney was in my childhood for a long long time and still is at the age of 28 and it will be missed
Right? I about cried hearing about it going away =( I’m 29 but I enjoyed it growing up and now he’s slowly being erased and forgotten.
A real loss for kids and grown-ups alike at Universal Studios. This place was calm, friendly and spoke a universal language to all kids who grew up with Barney & Friends. It will be missed a lot. Sad to see classics disappear!
Awwwww. That’s too bad. I really want A Day In The Park with Barney to stay in Universal Studios at Orlando, and I really love the slide, the Choo Choo Train, and everything else there.
There was some controversy regarding Barney & the actor who played him on the TV show. Cant seem to remember what it was. My guess is he had extreme leftist views. Well anyway the right wing crowd must be happy now to see Barney go.
Well that’s a bad day for barney, what do you think will replace it?
I’m so happy to hear it isn’t coming back. In fact all of Kidzone (except for E.T.) should be demoed and replaced by a new land. They are irrelevant IP’s on valuable real estate.
It is a bad news! Barney represents a child imagination in a material way. Show us in a playfull way that achieve our dreams! I live in Brazil and I had visited this show 3 times and always brought me a lot of emotion.
Absolutely heart broken about this news. Coming from the UK as a kid the Barney show was the highlight of my holiday for many years, and since growing up and having children of my own, hoping one day soon (after COVID) I would be able to take my children to enjoy the show too, now not being able to will certainly make a big impact on our future holidays to Florida. Very Sad Indeed.
Devastated I’ve loved Barney since I was a kid I’ve seen him live in Orlando twice and was looking forward to bringing my son to see him as he now loves Barney too💔💔💔
I have an autistic child whose face lit up While watching A day in the park w Barney I’m heartbroken He will never get to watch this show again. I’m so glad You dedicate an entire WORLD to Harry Potter But you cant Save a corner for a Park scene and Live Show with A Purple Dinosaur who makes Children Happy. If it wasn’t for the Islands of Adventure Water rides I wouldn’t give Universal the time of day
So disappointed to hear this. We brought our three year old granddaughter here in May of 2019. The show and the play yard were the highlight of our visit to this side of the park. The fact that it is is no longer open is the MAIN reason that we won’t be back with our grandchildren for a few years. As grandparents, I HATE paying the price for visiting amusement parks, as I don’t do many of the rides, BUT seeing her enjoyment in this area, was MORE than worth it and we were willing to pay it again, this May of 2021, with masks and everything. So, so disappointed that we won’t be coming back.
