REVIEW: Carthay Circle Lounge – Alfresco Dining Reopens with NEW Double Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae

Disneyland Resort has been reopening dining locations since the lift of the California stay-at-home order at the end of January. There have been changes at the resort as restaurants slowly open outdoor dining in Downtown Disney and Disney California Adventure.

Last night, Award Wieners in Hollywood Land opened in Disney California Adventure, and today marks the reopening of both Carthay Circle Restaurant and Smokejumpers Grill.

To celebrate the occasion, we decided to check out Carthay Circle’s Alfresco (outdoor) dining, and sink our teeth into something sweet.

You are allowed to purchase alcohol at Carthay Circle and Smokejumpers, as long as you order food as well. There is a two drink per person limit.

Reservations for this restaurant began a few days prior to opening today.

Even though all of the eating occurs outside, you still get to walk through the interior of Carthay Circle to reach your table. It is as elegant as ever!

The menu for Carthay Circle’s Alfresco Dining is available via a QR code. Also given to Carthay guests is a pamphlet with the history of Carthay Circle that also acts as a drink menu. Now, on to the dessert we tried.

Double Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae – $14.00

This sundae comes with candied almonds, whipped cream, a chocolate roll and a chocolate brownie on top. It is served in a classic sundae glass.

This chocolate shake was delicious! The ice cream was creamy with a very very rich chocolate flavor. It included chocolate fudge which added some thickness to the drink as well as even more chocolate flavor.

The brownie on top was very dense but could easily be mixed into the shake if you wanted to.

The ice cream also had some additional texture with small candied almonds. The chocolate roll on top was a nice touch that added some crunch to the treat. The whipped cream was light and sweet as usual. While this is priced at $14.00, it’s a really excellent dessert for any chocolate lover.
