UPDATE: Sources have indicated that the plans to reopen the EPCOT monorail line have been scrapped. Read more about this update here.
It has been almost a year since the EPCOT monorail line carried guests to and from the park. When Walt Disney World reopened in July, the EPCOT line was left shuttered, with only the Express and Resort lines returning to service. Thanks to the lower guest demand, Disney was able to take the opportunity to complete a beam refurbishment project and other necessary work on this third line. With crowd levels now rising and work nearing completion, the return of the EPCOT monorail is imminent. In fact, some guests have even spotted monorails testing, zooming around Future World and Spaceship Earth once more.
Today, we spotted cast members placing physical distancing markers in the queue at the Transportation and Ticket Center.
Why would you do this now if not planning to reopen soon? Well, you wouldn’t. It would have been done last year then.
Disney has not provided a date for the reopening of the EPCOT monorail line, but we expect it to be some time in the next 30 days or so.
Are you excited to ride the Highway in the Sky to EPCOT once more?
I want to know if the walkway connecting the Resort monorail and the Epcot monorail will be opening too.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney used the COVID excuse as the reason why they didn’t reopen the EPCOT monorail line sooner despite already having COVID restrictions on the 2 Magic Kingdom monorail lines.
I’ll be visiting in mid-May and every article like this and the peoplemover gives me more hope that things are looking a little more normal.
