REVIEW: New Chickpea Soup and Pork Skewers from Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen in the Magic Kingdom

Two new dishes join the menu (kind of) at the Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. The Skipper Canteen is located in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom, and is home to adventurous tropical cuisine in a fun, immersive atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place to hang your skipper hat, kick up your boots, and await your next adventure, this review is for you!

Chickpea Soup — $9

This brand new chickpea soup is topped with chickpeas and has diced tomatoes hiding underneath. We would describe it further, but this “Lost and Found” soup seems to have lost its flavor altogether.

The soup itself is nice and thick, but that’s about all we can say for this appetizer. We tried to discern more of an identifiable flavor, but overall it was pretty bland.

Pork Skewers — $13

An unadvertised special, the pork skewers lay on a bed of carrots, onions, radishes, and lettuce. The slaw is crunchy and refreshing, with a zesty, peppery kick. Cilantro and citrus are two flavors that stood out to us in this bright dish.

The pork is served in a Vietnamese style sauce that reminds us a little of soy sauce. The sauce was the perfect accompaniment and our only complaint is that we wish there was more of it. The pork was a little dry in spots, but the sauce helped make up for that.

The pork was very tender.

The zesty slaw also adds a nice pop of color to the dish.

The Skipper Canteen is open for both lunch and dinner at the Magic Kingdom. Advance Dining Reservations are always recommended, and remember that you need valid park admission and a park reservation to dine. The full menu can be found here.

  1. These items don’t appear on the linked menu, or on the app or website. I’d like to try the pork skewers when I visit in mid-March; is this a by-request item?
