Bayou Bites at the Mardi Gras Tribute Store in Universal Studios Florida has three new hand-held snacks that are perfect for paying tribute to New Orleans delicacies.
Crabmeat Hand Pie – $6.99
This delicious crabmeat hand pie was has a soft and fresh pastry shell stuffed with plenty of crab filling.
It doesn’t have an overwhelming seafood taste, so it’s palatable even for someone who doesn’t typically choose seafood options. There’s a really good flavor to it, but it doesn’t taste too fishy.
Although the ingredients list mentions celery, onions, and peppers, the celery was undetectable. The warm, fresh pastry combined with the savory, slightly sweet filling was excellent.
Spinach and Artichoke Vegetarian Hand Pie – $6.99
We’re huge fans of the spinach and artichoke dip from Lombard’s Seafood Grille and Confisco Grille, so this was one item we’d looked forward to trying. It did not disappoint!
It’s just as delicious as the dip but a lot more portable, and we devoured it quickly. What a fun way to shake things up by having it served inside a puff pastry?
Each bite was filled with that creamy, cheesy spinach and artichoke dip we love and complemented by the soft, warm pastry shell. We’ll be enjoying a few more of these over the next few weeks, for sure! We definitely recommend this one, especially if you’re looking for vegetarian options.
Andouille Puff Pastry with Creole Mustard – $8.99
This was delicious, but the portion size is small for the price. We really can’t justify ordering it again. That’s a shame because it really is very good.
The sausage was very mild, but the creole mustard added that spicy kick we were craving. We would have liked a little more puff pastry since, as you can see, it doesn’t even go completely around the sausage. Unfortunately, that means the taste of the pastry gets lost. For us, the creole mustard steals the show with this one here. Altogether, it’s tasty, but the price and portion size would prevent us from ordering it again.
