In addition to today’s “Black Widow” announcement, Disney has revealed that “Cruella” will also now premiere on Disney Plus at the same time they open in theaters. “Cruella” is arriving as scheduled on May 28. Premier Access offers the film to Disney+ subscribers with a $30 rental fee.

The scheduling shift for “Black Widow” means that “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” has been bumped back to September 3. It’s still expected to have a traditional theatrical release.

Pixar’s “Luca” won’t play in theaters at all and instead is launching exclusively on Disney Plus, for no extra fee, on June 18.

Numerous others were postponed as well: “Free Guy” (Aug. 13), “The King’s Man”(Dec. 22), “Deep Water” (Jan. 14, 2022) and “Death on the Nile” (Feb. 11, 2022).

  1. I wonder why Luca is just getting stuck on Disney+ with no charge? That didn’t make a lot of sense to me for Soul, and it seems to make even less sense this time. I have to think a new Pixar movie would be an easier sell for an upcharge than the Cruella movie. Odd.
