Imagineer Zach Riddley has shared new Mary Blair-inspired concept art of Cinderella Castle decorated for Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary.
According to Riddley, the 50th-anniversary transformation of Cinderella Castle was partially inspired by Mary Blair’s Cinderella art, some of which he also shared in the Instagram post.
Riddley wrote more about the inspiration behind the 50th anniversary decorations too, saying, “We wanted to go back to the original story of this beautiful structure to create something entirely original for this grand celebration. Fanciful ribbons wrap in air around the castle turrets – inspired by the scene in the film where Cinderella is transformed in her stunning gown. And Mary’s designs provided us a beautiful palette of rich hues to choose from – deep blues, purples and shimmering golds mesh with a touch of EARidescence that will catch light and evolve through the day and into each evening.”
A few pieces of 50th anniversary decor have already been hung on Cinderella Castle and the castle stage floor is also being refurbished.
So, if this is Mary Blair’s inspired Cinderella castle explain to me why it’s pink and gold?
To quote Joan Cusack in Working Girl, “ Sometimes, I dance around my apartment in my underwear… doesn’t make me Madonna, never will.”
Mary Blair would have actually done a beautiful job on the castle. Just evoking her name won’t change the truth.
