We have been visiting Salt & Straw at Downtown Disney District over the past week to try some of their ice cream flavors. We recently reviewed the Cinnatopia Cinnamon Bun and Strawberry Tres Leches varieties. Today we tried Vegan Lemon Cheesecake Crumble.
Vegan Lemon Cheesecake Crumble Ice Cream – $6.25
Creamy cashews are carving out a niche in vegan cheese culture with a lush texture you won’t believe is dairy-free. We blend the loveliest cheese around with coconut yogurt and lemon zest for a tart cheesecake swirl, then make an almond crumble reminiscent of graham cracker crust. The satin cheesecake gets layered into a salted vanilla coconut ice cream.
The base is salted vanilla coconut ice cream blended with coconut yogurt and dairy-free cheese.
On top of that, a tart lemon cheesecake flavor is spread throughout the ice cream. All of these flavors complimented each other very well.
The coconut base has a very grainy texture. We could feel the tiny coconut pieces. This made the base more like paste than ice cream.
The lemon isn’t blended throughout the ice cream, so some bites are extremely tart. Small pieces of cheesecake crumble, graham cracker, and cashews make for great additives with a nice crunch.
The cheesecake pieces are soft and add a subtle cheesecake flavor. In fact, the cheesecake flavor is barely noticeable.
Overall, we feel this tastes more like lemon coconut ice cream. It is a great vegan option at Disneyland Resort, but it is best for those who love coconut.
