REVIEW: Special Sadaharu Aoki “Matcha Chocolate Soft Serve Cone” Adds Japanese Twist on a Western Favorite at Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland recently announced a collaboration with the acclaimed Sadaharu Aoki Paris Bakery to create new treats for Guests to enjoy, and one of the more popular treats so far has been the Special Matcha & Chocolate Soft Serve at Ice Cream Cones in World Bazaar! While matcha is well-known to western audiences, it’s still rather divisive depending on how it’s served. Fortunately for us, Tokyo Disneyland seems to have hit the mark!

Sold alongside the regular matcha ice cream at Ice Cream Cones in World Bazaar, the Special Soft Serve costs double a single scoop of the regular ice cream.

But what you get sure is “special”! The Special Soft Serve comes in a chocolate cone with a matcha cookie, a special wrapper, and a white chocolate square with “Tokyo Disneyland X Sadaharu Aoki Paris” printed on it. Also, the soft serve itself is drenched in chocolate syrup.

If you’re a fan of matcha, you’ll almost certainly enjoy this special treat! For those unaware, matcha is essentially a very strong green tea flavor, and it indeed comes across in this cone. The decorative cookie is hard and has a lighter matcha flavor to it, whereas the white chocolate’s flavor is easily guessed. Despite the name, the chocolate-matcha mix promised is only evident in the upper layers, where Hershey chocolate syrup (or something very close) is drizzled. The cone’s chocolate flavor is mild at best (though still distinct) and doesn’t compliment the soft serve in the same way that chocolate syrup does. Nonetheless, this is still a treat worth your time and yen, and it’ll be particularly scrumptious when the miserably hot and humid Tokyo summers roll around in just a couple of months.

If you’re looking to try the Special Soft Serve, you’ll find it at Ice Cream Cones in World Bazaar through June 30th. Are you interested in giving this a try? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
