It’s a beautiful day at Universal Studios Hollywood! It’s lunchtime, and we know just the spot to attack at lunchtime, so we dropped by Jurassic Café to try something new. The restaurant officially opened in March during the “Taste of Universal” event alongside the new Minion Café.
The blue and white of the Jurassic Café matches the theming that overtook the area back in 2019 when Jurassic Park – The Ride received a Jurassic World makeover.
Indoor dining is available here, with some tables unavailable to promote physical distancing.
The Coca-Cola Freestyle machines are not available at this time due to COVID-19 safety measures.
Universal provides instructions for their “designated dining areas,” requiring indoor diners to have no more than six guests per table, keep face coverings on unless actively eating or drinking, put a mask on when a Team Member approaches, and wash their hands.
BBQ Brisket Sandwich – $15.99
Currently, food will be served in this fashion, which for a theme park blog is a visual nightmare.
The BBQ brisket sandwich comes with seasoned fries, which were warm and salty.
There was a generous amount of the light chipotle mayo sauce, a great contrast to the sweet BBQ.
The bun was buttery and nicely toasted.
The brisket was tender, full of smoked flavor, and quite nice.
The sandwich is also topped with pickles and coleslaw. We thought there was a little too much slaw, but it was easy enough to remove some.
The BBQ brisket sandwich is a great option on the lower lot. It was tasty and very filling. We would order this again.
Spiced Cashew Brittle – $5.99
The spiced cashew brittle is a leftover offering from the “Taste of Universal” event.
The brittle is easy to carry around with you to snack on during your visit.
This was delicious. It was a sweet, salty, and spicy treat that reminded us of fall and pumpkin spice. It’s sticky but doesn’t fall apart when you take a bite.
Each piece had a good balance of cashews and the sweet brittle throughout. We loved this!
Raptor Refresher with Collector’s Cup – $15
The Raptor Refresher collector’s cup stars Blue the Velociraptor, with her picture across the cup and a small model of her on the lid.
This cup does qualify for $2 soda refills, which is a great deal on sunny days like today.
Unfortunately, the Raptor Refresher drink was a disappointment. It was too sweet, tasting simply like pure sugar (which the kids may enjoy). It was like a Powerade, but with twice the recommended sugar content.
