With the release of Disney’s newest film Cruella just this past Friday, we’ve found new merchandise on shopDisney and now food offerings in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World! We stopped by one of our favorite sweet shops on property, Amorette’s Patisserie, to try the new cake available in honor of the movie’s release.

Cruella Petit – $22

With this being the second movie-themed cake released from Amorette’s this month, the Cruella version brings just as much flair as the Mulan one did. This one is presented with a pair of red lips, a fashion illustration featuring the namesake character, and then buttons, rhinestones, and a leather-like material and belt around the entirety of the cake – all of which are fondant, except for the belt which is ribbon, (none of which we recommend eating, by the way).

The inner layers are composed of vanilla chiffon cake, graham cake, milk chocolate mousse, and chocolate chip cookie dough. The cake layers are fresh and moist, while the mousse is creamy without being too rich. These three ingredients work well for a balanced and mild composition, while the chocolate chip cookie dough adds an unexpected flavor and crunch.

The cookie dough wouldn’t have been our first choice for the final component, but its limited use in a single layer towards the bottom doesn’t let it dominate, allowing it to work as a unique add-on versus a dominant flavor.

Overall this is a tasty and balanced treat, though not bringing any new flavors to the table.
