This week, both Universal Studios Japan and the Oriental Land Company, owner and operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, announced plans to offer COVID-19 vaccines to all workers in the immediate future, as Japan’s effort to get the populace vaccinated continues to ramp up.
Tokyo Disney Resort
As announced by the Oriental Land Company, all approximately 20,000 Cast Members and full-time employees will be offered a chance to get their COVID-19 vaccine starting July 5th, no matter when they qualify in their place of residence. It is expected that they will be offered the Moderna vaccine, which is being distributed at mass vaccination sites around Japan. Information on how appointments will be distributed was not made public.
Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan also announced plans to offer vaccines to all of their approximately 10,000 Crew Members and employees. All part-time, full-time, and subcontracted employees are eligible for vaccinations beginning June 21st, as well as entertainers staying in Japan on visas.. Vaccines will not be mandated, but anyone will be able to get their shots regardless of when they qualify in their place of residence. Like at Tokyo Disney Resort, it’s likely that the Moderna vaccine will be administered, with the goal of completing immunizations for all who wish by sometime in August.
Although off to a slow start, Japan’s vaccination program has ramped up immensely in the past 30 days, with an average of 961,404 doses administered daily in the past week according to Reuters. With this pace, we can only hope that Japan is able to begin exiting the pandemic as the United States has within the near future.
