Disneyland Resort Guests May Upgrade an Unused Ticket to a Magic Key Pass

Today, Disneyland Resort announced its new frequent visitor program, Magic Key. Magic Key passes will go on sale August 25, and according to Magic Key terms and conditions, guests will be able to upgrade an unused ticket to a Magic Key.

Here is the information from the Disneyland website:

“A Guest wishing to upgrade to a Pass from another form of eligible Disneyland® Resort theme park admission media must upgrade on the same day in which the original form of theme park admission media is valid, and must choose a Pass of equal or greater value than the retail price of the original theme park admission media when it was purchased.

The difference in prices must be paid in full at the time of the upgrade. If an upgrade to a Pass is made from a multi-day ticket, the Pass will be backdated to begin on the first day that such ticket was used; if an upgrade to a Pass is made from a lower level Pass, the new Pass will have the same expiration date as the original Pass.

Each guest wishing to upgrade their theme park admission media to a Pass must be present at the time of the upgrade transaction. Fully used, or partially used and expired, theme park admission media, complimentary ticket media, special event ticket media, and ticket media stating its ineligibility for an upgrade may not be upgraded to a Pass. Upgrades are subject to Pass availability. Downgrades are not allowed.”

  1. We have a 3-day ticket with reservations on August 24, 25, and 26. If we want to upgrade to an annual pass on the 25th, do we need to not enter the park and wait until 10 am to go to a ticket booth to upgrade?

    • If you bought those 3 day passes they were offering us California residents, they do not qualify. I confirmed with Disneyland Customer Service.

  2. The one I want to know if upgrading from a single day ticket will it have to be a used one for the day meaning will you have to visit the park then choose that same day to upgrade or will we have the option on an unused ticket to forfeit it and use that money towards a pass.

  3. Hi, I have 2 day hoppers for Sept 18 & 19, It appears with this info that we can gain the cash value of both days even if we upgrade on the last day. I assume the Magic key passes will follow the same rules about same-day entry being allowed even without a Magic Key reservation because I upgraded a gate ticket with a reservation? It also doesn’t specify that the ticket being upgraded should be ‘unused’ that day like the old upgrade policy. So in theory could we complete our time the 2nd day and then upgrade to a pass right before the ticket booths close?
