New delicious food continues to debut around the Disneyland Resort and so we stopped by the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop in the Pacific Wharf area to try some new and returning sundaes: the Magical Sundae and the Ocean Beach.
A display inside Ghirardelli alerts guests to the Magical Sundae, which has gone from a special event sundae to being part of the regular menu.
As highlighted on the menu for Ocean Beach, guests can now choose to include either milk or dark chocolate fudge on their sundae.
Magical Sundae – $14.25
Vanilla ice cream and handmade hot fudge topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, and dipped waffle ears
Like many of Ghirardelli’s sundaes, this one is very photogenic and also large enough to share.
This sundae includes some tasty waffle cone “Mickey ears” on top.
The Magical Sundae is a pretty straightforward dessert: vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and sprinkles. If you’re in the mood for something classic, this is your go-to. It’s very similar to the World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae also offered by Ghirardelli. The only difference is the crispy chocolate-dipped waffle Mickey ears.
While good, there are many other unique offerings on the Ghirardelli menu, so this sundae feels a little less exciting.
Ocean Beach Sundae – $13.75
Vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, handmade milk or dark chocolate hot fudge topped with whipped cream, sea salt and a Ghirardelli Milk or Dark Sea Salt Caramel Square
While the Calfornia sun was doing a number on the Ocean Beach, you can definitely see the dense fudge layered in.
The Ocean Beach sundae is very good! We got this one with the dark chocolate fudge and it is much better than the milk chocolate we tried on the Magical Sundae.
The salted caramel dark chocolate square up top is good as always, and a nice complement to the sundae giving it a bit of crunch. The caramel drizzle on top and within the sundae isn’t overpowering and meshes well with the fudge.
Of the two sundaes, we find the Ocean Beach to be the better thanks to its layered, rich dark chocolate fudge. While we would definitely get both again, Ocean Beach is our first choice.
