Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery recently reopened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and debuted three new menu items. We stopped by on our visit to the park to try the new dishes.
Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery is located in Africa, next to Tusker House Restaurant.
Spiced Potato Hand Pies – $9.99
Vegetables and potatoes wrapped in pastry served with harissa aïoli and coriander chutney
The hand pies are stuffed with chickpeas, cauliflower, squash, and carrots.
The creamy sauce is listed as harissa aioli, but the Cast Member told us it was Tzatziki sauce. The other was a coriander chutney (the Cast Member said it was a dill relish, but it definitely tasted like coriander). In fairness, this is the first time we’ve actually seen Kusafiri open past breakfast on our visits. The Cast Members may still be unfamiliar with the new menu.
On its own, it tastes like a simple empanada with vegetables. There is a slight spiced flavor, but the sauces help them out by offering a nice kick. We enjoyed these, and the sauces stole the spotlight.
Marinated Chicken Flatbread Sandwich – $10.49
Marinated chicken topped with cucumber–tomato salad, tahini sauce, and greens served with house-made chips
The pita is served warm and soft, but it can get hard quickly if you don’t eat it fast enough. The serving of chicken was adequate and well-seasoned, but dry.
The kettle-cooked chips were tasty and crunchy, with a kick of seasoning to boot.
The vegetables and spring mix add a freshness to the pita.
The sauce was light and reminded us more of a Greek dish than an African one. The flavors fell a little flat here, but it was a filling meal nonetheless.
Red Chili Hot Dog – $9.49
Spicy hot dog topped with cucumber–tomato salad and harissa aïoli served with house-made chips
This was a basic Disney hot dog, but the sriracha gives it a much-appreciated kick. The cucumber-tomato salad gives it a nice crunchy texture. It was a nice variation on the normal hot dog offerings, and sriracha fans will likely love this.
