Tokyo Disney Resort to Keep Drastically Reduced Hours Amid Capacity & Price Increase

Although the State of Emergency is being lifted in all affected areas of Japan and government restrictions will ease, the Oriental Land Company announced today that the drastically reduced hours at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will continue until further notice, even as capacity doubles and ticket prices are hiked once again.

Starting October 1, restrictions will be eased, and maximum guest capacity will double from 5,000 to 10,000 guests, still a fraction of a typical day’s attendance at the two parks. However, the Oriental Land Company will continue to only operate the two parks for nine hours per day, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., until further notice. It seems likely that guests will also continue to face considerably shorter operating hours at many attractions during the already drastically reduced hours, including nearly half of those at Tokyo Disneyland.

This is also in the face of the third ticket price hike in 18 months, which brings a day at Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea to nearly 30% higher than what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the near-lack of normal entertainment, short hours, and low capacity of the two parks.

As it stands, restrictions are set to ease further come November, at which point we hope the Oriental Land Company will allow more guests to visit and return operating hours to a reasonable amount of time.
