Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with two special desserts. Capt. Cook’s offers a Dole Whip cupcake, and Pineapple Lanai has a celebratory version of the classic Dole Whip soft serve in either pineapple or lime.
50th Celebration Cupcake – $5.99
DOLE Whip® Pineapple Center, Tropical Fruit Salsa, and Pineapple Macaroon
The topping is a very dry apple crumble atop overly sweet frosting. The small amount of fruit salsa adds a nice freshness.
The Dole Whip filling tastes like pineapple cream cheese, and it is delicious. There are pieces of pineapple inside as well. The cake itself is vanilla.
The pineapple macaroon, which had a nice pineapple flavor without tasting artificial, is attached to the decorative sugared flower with white chocolate. There are a lot of flavors going on with this cupcake, and almost all of them are too sweet.
The stars are the fruit salsa and the pineapple filling. If you don’t mind a sweet treat, we would recommend this for the Dole Whip filling; it’s that good.
50th Celebration Dole Whip Soft Serve – $5.49
DOLE Whip® Pineapple, 50th White Chocolate Medallion, Yellow Umbrella, Yellow Sparkles
This classic Dole Whip soft serve comes with the same Polynesian Village Resort 50th medallion as the cupcake. It is dusted with EARidescent shimmer and topped off with a parasol umbrella. The shimmer does not affect the taste in any way, so this was the same Dole Whip we know and love. It’s a fun, festive take on the classic treat.
