To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, special offerings can be found around the resort, including at the hotels. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has a new petit stump cake, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort has a delicious crème brûlée eclair, and now Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village has a new African-inspired dessert to celebrate the 50th anniversary as well.
African Triple Chocolate Mousse — $8
Nyangbo Dark Chocolate from Ghana, Tanariva Milk Chocolate from Madagascar, Orelys Blond Chocolate, Chocolate Almond Biscuit, and Strawberries
This dessert has a lot going for it. The festive anniversary sprinkles are a nice touch, though unnecessary for the presentation or flavor of the dish.
The mousse is enrobed in a chocolate shell, and topped with these dollops of panna cotta and strawberry compote. The panna cotta wasn’t bad, but had little in the way of distinct flavor. The strawberry compote did brighten it up a bit however.
The 50th anniversary chocolate medallion was a nice touch to celebrate the occasion.
The mousse itself is very rich and decadent, and the thick chocolate coating gave the soft mousse a nice tactile crunch.
Surprisingly, the real winner of this dessert was the chocolate almond biscuit. This is like a homemade granola bar almost. It was a sweet and salty bite with a hint of caramel to it and despite how delicious the mousse was, this biscuit really stole the show.
Overall, we really enjoyed this African Triple Chocolate Mousse and will definitely order it again.
